Former Miss World and one of Bollywood’s biggest stars, Aishwarya Rai, is under attack for not losing enough baby weight, New York Daily News reports. The stunning 38-year-old star – who gave birth last November to daughter Aaradhya with husband Abhishek Bachchan – is being slammed in her native India by film fans, on blogs, and in entertainment columns for not dropping enough post-baby weight, with many arguing the actress has a “duty” to her supporters to keep up her glamorous image.
Some of the harsh criticism includes a video of the actress, juxtaposing images of her pre- and post-baby body overlaid with the sound of elephants trumpeting. The clip has been viewed more than 500,000 times. Other online sources have followed suit, with similar view counts.
“She is a Bollywood actress and it is her duty to look good and fit,” one video commenter said. Another said she “needs to learn from people like Victoria Beckham who are back to size zero weeks after their delivery.”
Showbusiness columnist Shobhaa De opened up to the paper about backlash.
Aishwarya is like a goddess. She is held up as the ideal of beauty and so there is an expectation on her to look perfect at all times,” De said. “The role models being held up are Angelina Jolie and Victoria Beckham . . .this whole business of looking desperately skinny two weeks after giving birth is a Western import.”
Some have come to the defense of the Raincoat actress.
She is a real woman looking after a baby. We should be concern [sic] for her health and happiness especially if she is nursing the baby,” one commenter wrote. “Not the Western belief of expecting people in the spot light to lose all weight in month.”
The new mom has said she wants to “enjoy motherhood” and not stress about the number on a scale.

Maggie Gyllenhaal’s new comedy about the invention of the vibrator required a light hand (pun extremely intended!) when it came to shooting scenes of Victoria women, uh, enjoying their treatment. So how does a filmmaker shoot such delicate material? “We had orgasm rehearsal!” Hysteria director Tanya Wexler explained. “We didn’t want it to sound porny, but we also didn’t what it to sound incredibly absurd.”
Seeing as how this is cinema, not Skinemax, Wexler and her male leads Hugh Dancy and Jonathan Pryce also had to get crafty with how they shot scenes featuring the good doctors, er, tending to their lady patients before the ingenious invention arrives. “They can’t just kind of fake it,” Wexler said (pun unintended!). “There was a lot of uncomfortable brainstorming until Hugh was like, ‘Can we just use a sandbag?’ Jonathan, after two days of shooting, comes up to me and says, ‘I rubbed the skin off the knuckles of my hand.’” We call that dedication to the craft!
While Gyllenhaal’s brassy protagonist Charlotte doesn’t face any problems that are quite so graphic, she still got inventive developing her character. “I wasn’t concerned at all with her being historically accurate,” Maggie explained. “I just wanted her to be alive and wild and full of being a woman. She could be from any time, any planet.”
Meanwhile, both women had a question about the Victorian society that gave birth to the vibrator (so to speak). That question is: really? “Is it really true that theses people who couldn’t look at a woman’s ankle thought they could give a woman an orgasm and that was considered a medical procedure?” Maggie laughed. “Really, don’t you think men knew what women’s orgasms look like for a long time?” We hope so!
“The core root is the denial that we are all in about something in some way,” Wexler agrees. “Doctors can be masturbating women one minute, and then barely able to old the hand of the woman they’re courting the next.” As if you didn’t want to see the movie already!

“What people don’t realize, and what Liz has done really well, is that you want to show off the belly,” Molly Sims tells Celebrity Baby Scoop. “Because if not, you look really big. If you make it tighter – I know people laugh – you actually look smaller,” says Molly, who was sporting a Liz Lange flutter-sleeve top (available at Target stores and Target.com for $19.99).
The guest of honor and pioneer of maternity fashion, Liz Lange, was all smiles at the star-studded event.
You want to feel beautiful and amazing, especially as a pregnant mama,” Soleil Moon Frye tells Celebrity Baby Scoop. “I remember that stage of I need to find that perfect, amazing, beautiful thing that fits just right and I love Liz Lange. Her collection is so fantastic and she always makes you feel beautiful, and you should feel your most beautiful when you’re having a baby.”
Molly goes on to share a “little secret” with us. “I’ll tell you a little secret,” Molly says. “When we first found we were pregnant, we went to Target and got 12 onesies and I had printed ‘I can’t wait to meet you’ and then my friends’ and family’s names.”
Molly went on to say that her baby boy on-the-way (possibly named Asher, Quinn, or Ford) is going to call his parents “big momma” and “big daddy.”
The best thing about pregnancy is feeling my baby boy,” Molly adds. “I’m a month away so I feel everything. He’s attacking my ribs, my lungs.”
