“Gotta Go, Bye”: The 10 Best Quotes Of The 2013 Emmy Awards

Remember when they aired the Emmys after 9/11? That was possibly a more cheerful telecast than this year’s, when special tributes to late producers and actors punctuated the evening in addition to the traditional death montage. But it wasn’t just one big In Memoriam, fortunately.

Remember when they aired the Emmys after 9/11? That was possibly a more cheerful telecast than this year’s, when special tributes to late producers and actors punctuated the evening in addition to the traditional death montage. But it wasn’t just one big In Memoriam, fortunately. Here were our favorite moments from the evening.

1. “Thank you so very much. Um, I gotta go, bye.” If every speech had been as to the point as Nurse Jackie star Merritt Wever’s acceptance for best supporting actress in a comedy series, we would have been done with the whole show in half an hour.

2. “It might be degrading, but we would be degrateful.” Amy Poehler’s leering line totally saved the too long intro full of past Emmy hosts. Runner-up: Kevin Spacey doing his House of Cards character, Frank Underwood, pretending to have orchestrated Neil Patrick Harris‘ downfall: “Getting them all to sabotage Neil was almost too easy.”

What good is going to glitzy red carpet events if you don’t have a date to share it with? Most actors and actresses bring their spouses or significant others on their arm to help celebrate TVs biggest night, but that wasn’t mandatory! Some stars went with slightly less predictable choices for their dates.

30 Rock star Alec Baldwin brought his beautiful young daughter Ireland, while the multi-talented Julianne Hough showed up with her brother Derek on her arm. We imagine she must have skipped past her ex, E! red carpet head honcho Ryan Seacrest…oof. But many other honorees went with their main squeezes (to use the legal term). Professional handsome -man/TV star Jon Hamm arrived with long term partner Jennifer Westfeldt, and his Mad Men-mate Christina Hendricks came on the arm of her husband, Geoffrey Arend. And of course we caught newly minted couple Kaley Cuoco and tennis pro Ryan Sweeting making their official red carpet debut, although they did appear in public together on Friday at an Emmys pre-party. Head up to the gallery above to see who came with who(m) and what they wore!
