Olivia Pope, fixer of the world, mistress to the president, daughter of some kind of CIA honcho, does not seem like the type to blush easily. Which is why I was so amused when Scandal star Kerry Washington hid behind her purse adorably when all I did was compliment her phenomenally expressive face. That scene in Django Unchained when Jamie Foxx walks in and surprises her? An epic poem in a single look. So, I wondered, is there any emotion that’s actually hard for Washington to portray?

Kerry Washington

“You know what’s really hard for me? In my personal life, not as a character, when I have a secret or a surprise for someone, and I can’t tell them, it’s SO painful,” she told me at the Paley Center’s “She’s Making Media” event in New York on Wednesday. “I’m the person who’s always trying to hint at surprises, because I just want to share them so much, so I’m not good at that.”

Says the woman who got married in secret earlier this year to San Francisco 49er Nnamdi Asomugha. Also, how did she even handle not telling us what happens next to Olivia and Fitz?

“Well, luckily I hadn’t read the script for the first episode, so for a long time people had been like, ‘What happens?’ I’m like, ‘I don’t know,’ ” she explained. “But once we shot the first episode, it’s been very hard to talk to people, because I want to tell you all how amazing it is!”

As Scandal enters its third season tonight at 10 pm ET, it’s more buzzed about than ever. Clearly, we want more Olivia, all the time. But does Kerry think about when she wants to stop this ride?

“I don’t have an end date in mind,” she said. “I don’t know why we can’t have a geriatric Olivia Pope in like a walker and cute Gucci pumps. There’s no end for this woman.”

On September 30, 2013, in Article, Celeb, eBooks, Entertainment, Fashion & Lifestyle, Movies, Music, Videos, by nadia

Welcome back to The Gossip Table!

Welcome back to The Gossip Table! Rob Shuter, Delaina Dixon, Marianne Garvey, Chloe Melas and Noah Levy are all back with the latest scoop of celebrity news.

Kicking off Monday is Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom‘s marriage troubles. Noah Levy reports that Khloe is emotionally ready to cut ties with Lamar but is waiting until they film the new season of Keeping Up With The Kardashians. Marriages and divorces mean big ratings for the show.

But that’s not all the Kardashian news for today…

In other Karadashian news, Kim is on the move. Rob Shuter reports that the new mom is in France with Kanye West for Paris Fashion Week. However, don’t expect North West to make her runway debut. The couple left their child behind in order to take their cousin CiCi, who has been battling cancer for 17 years. Kim wanted to take CiCi on a special trip out of the country. Though, that means the new mother had some special prepping to do…

Will wedding bells soon be chiming for Katy Perry? Yes, if John Mayer had his way. However, Chloe Melas reports that Perry is not quite so ready. Perry wants to take her time before she heads down the aisle a second time. Apparently, Mayer is willing to wait. But for how long?

10 Easy Ways To Keep Baby Happy And Comfortable

Parents of infants and newborns may sometimes have a tough time figuring out their babies’ needs based solely on their crying.

Parents of infants and newborns may sometimes have a tough time figuring out their babies’ needs based solely on their crying. Instead of trying to decipher what their fussy baby is trying to tell them, these new parents would rather keep the crying at bay and ensure their little ones are happy at all times. They are all wondering the same thing: How can I make sure my little bundle of joy always stays cheerful?

Fortunately, Difrax baby products company’s Vivienne Van Eijkelenborg  brainstormed the best tips for keeping baby happy and calm to help out new moms and dads:

Set a routine. Even babies can sense what is coming next. Your little one thrives on routine and structure and will be much happier if she’s eating, sleeping, bathing and playing at roughly the same times every day.  Sleep is especially important, because a well-rested baby is a happy baby.  Be vigilant about bedtimes and naptime, even if it doesn’t work well with your schedule. Your baby will actually sleep better if the nap and bed times are consistent.

Keep yourself calm. Babies can take their cues from mom or dad. If you become panicky or irritable, or if you create a sense of chaos, your baby will sense it and react the same way.

Snuggle with them. Babies need physical touch, and being snuggled by mom or dad will keep them calm and help them feel safe. The “Kangaroo Hold” or going bare skin to bare skin is especially calming for a child.

Know your baby.  You’ll learn quickly what makes your little one fussy.  It could be a wet diaper, itchy clothes, or hunger, or baby could be too warm or too cold.  Journaling when your baby started being fussy and recording how or when the crying stopped may give great insight into what your baby needs.

Have a special song.  Babies love being the center of attention.  Find a special song to sing when baby is feeling fussy.  The sound of your singing will comfort her and help her calm down and stay positive.

Create bathtime rituals.  Sometimes, when baby is feeling out of sorts, a warm bath can help sooth the negative disposition.  Create special bathtime rituals that will relax your little one and keep her calm.  Most babies enjoy music, and playing your little one’s favorite songs can often put her in a more playful mood.  The water from the shower can also produce a calming effect when baby is feeling fussy.

Story time.  Babies enjoy the sound of mama’s voice while being snuggled.  Reading a special story, especially at bedtime, can create special bonding moments between you and your baby. It also can set the stage for a restful night’s sleep.

Massage. Just like adults, babies can feel the day’s stresses.  Use lightly scented or unscented oil to massage baby’s back, legs, and arms while speaking soft words of affirmation, as this will have a calming effect on her mood.  The soft sounds of mommy or daddy’s voice will lull baby into a more relaxed state of being.

Take a walk or go for a car ride.  Babies need variety in their day too, and if the fussiness starts, they will often calm down if they get outside and enjoy the fresh air.  If baby isn’t feeling happy, take her for a walk around the block or to the park in the stroller.  Some babies find the motion and sound of the car soothing so if a walk outside is not in the cards due to the weather, a car ride may make for a good alternative.

Surround baby with bright, cheerful colors: Bold and colorful patterns will stimulate baby’s curiosity and keep her occupied and engaged. This doesn’t just hold true for the nursury and baby toys; now you can also keep your little one happy and content with a colorful, bold pacifier! Difrax offers 3-stage pacifiers designed to meet the individual needs of baby at every age/stage, in an array of bold, colorful, and fashionable patterns that are sure to evoke happiness in little tots. The pacifiers come in two styles: Classic (resembles a mother’s breast and is perfect for babies who turn the pacifier around in their mouths) and Orthodontic (stimulates muscle/palate development).

Vivienne Van Eijkelenborg runs Difrax, a Dutch baby products company that pioneered the 3-stage pacifier system designed to accommodate each stage of baby’s development with newborn to 6 month, 6 + month an 18+ month sizes. Difrax offers innovative, stylish, and trendy products that make the lives of babies and their parents as convenient and as pleasant as possible. Difrax also just released a fun video to help couples make the “Big Baby Decision!” See the video below.
