The Steve Harvey Show alum Terri Vaughn stars in the UP Original movie In The Meantime, premiering tonight, August 17th at 7 p.m. ET. The talented actress plays Nina, a pregnant mom who helps her sister, Jazz, find direction during a rough time.

Celebrity Baby Scoop chats with Terri about her character Nina, her favorite part about working on the movie, and what her two “fun, crazy, and wild” sons- Daylen, 12, and Kal’El, 5- are up to. The mom-of-two also reveals how she kept the house free of “Mommy, I’m Bored” syndrome this summer!

CBS: You play Nina in the UP Original film, In The Meantime. Could you tell us about the movie and your character?

TV: “Yes! The movie is very funny and about a woman, played by Kali Hawk. She’s trying to figure out her love life, and she ends up coming to stay with her older sister, Nina, played by me. I am trying to coach her through making the right decisions, not just for her love life, but also for her whole life in general. She is a pretty spastic kind of character.

In the movie, I am the responsible one with the family, and I’m also on the verge of giving birth to twins. It’s a fun movie with really fun characters. My character is the anchor in Kali’s character’s life. I get to be that big sister, and I am also a big sister to a lot of people in my life anyway. It was great to also play a mother, because I am also a mom in real life. It was beautiful to be able to play a mother who’s pregnant and I really embraced the role, because one of my favorite times in my life was when I was pregnant. I had a great pregnancy, so recalling the memory of that was awesome. It was great to relive those feelings of always touching your stomach and being aware that you’re carrying a baby inside of you. It was fun.

I definitely feel like I pulled from my own real life experiences to play the part. It really wasn’t that difficult to do, because I am always giving advice and trying to help people out. Being that nurturing person in the film was not hard at all.”

CBS: What was your favorite part about filming the movie?

TV: “Kali is a very funny and great comedic actress, so being able to play off of her was awesome. I usually play the comedic role a lot, and this time I got to play the straight-laced girl. The spontaneity of being able to roll with it when improvisational things happened was great. Tommy Ford also played my husband, and we’ve been friends for a really long time and he’s like a brother to me. It was also a lot of fun to work with him.”

CBS: Could you tell us about your two children? How old are they and what do they like to do for fun?

TV: “I have a five-year-old son named Kal’El, who just started Kindergarten. We’re very excited about that! I also have a twelve-year-old son named Daylen, who’s is in the seventh grade. They are fun, crazy, and wild boys that keep me on my toes all the time. I enjoy my kids a lot.

My oldest son plays football and loves it, and my five-year-old is into whatever his brother and father are into. He’s such a ‘Daddy’s Boy.’ His daddy is literally Superman to him; when we say our prayers at night, he thanks God that his father is Superman and he’s serious about it. [laughs] He just said it last night and it makes me smile every time. I love it!”

CBS: How do you bond with your children? What is your favorite part about being a mom?

TV: “I travel a lot when I work and there are such long hours on-set, so I love being at home and doing movie nights. Believe it or not, my five-year-old is always the ringleader! He always says, ‘Let’s have a pajama party night!’ and then he picks out the movie and the snacks. He also picks out the music, because we have to have music for the party. He does the whole checklist. He picks out everything and we just go along with it. Those are my favorite moments, and we have that party at least three times a month.”

CBS: How do you balance your mommy duties and work?

TV: “I have a really great and supportive husband, which helps a lot. He’s very active and supportive in the kids’ lives, as well as my cheerleader. He is my Superman who wants to support whatever I want to do, whether that is producing a film or television show or acting in one. He is 120% behind me and makes it easy for me. Being a mother and having such an active career, there are times where you might feel guilty if you missed doing homework one night with your child. When I have to miss those opportunities, he really eases my spirit by making me feel like it’s okay. He’ll say, ‘Oh, I got it, no big deal. It’s okay, you do your thing.’ It really does help, because you can’t help but feel guilty sometimes. He makes me feel like it’s okay and that I’m not making the wrong decisions by being at work that night. He makes me feel like I’m making the right decision because it’s something I love doing and my kids want to see me happy too. That really helps.”

CBS: What values do you hope to impart on your children?

TV: “I really want them to stay connected to God and know that there is a God that watches over us and wants us to do great in life. I also want them to be confident that they have all the tools they need to do whatever it is they want to do in life. I also want them to be responsible and take responsibility for the choices they make and any given task they take on. If they have a task, I want them to be responsible and complete it the best that they can. I really want them to be confident about leaving their mark on the world, whatever that mark is.”

CBS: How did you keep the house free of “Mommy I’m Bored!” syndrome this summer?

TV: “My oldest kid is from my previous marriage, and his father lives in California. He gets to spend his summers with his dad in California, which he loves. When my oldest is away, of course that means my five-year-old is looking for attention around the clock. He and his older brother usually would be playing around and doing their thing, but now it’s all about hanging out with mommy and daddy! We did a lot of fun activities like swimming, and he also got to do a lot of sleepovers with his friends. We also had many pajama parties this summer, just him and I having ‘Mommy Nights.’ [laughs] That’s the one thing my husband doesn’t get involved in. He’s like, ‘That’s your thing…I don’t do pajama parties.’ [laughs]

CBS: What other upcoming projects do you have?

TV: “Right now I am in rehearsal for a play called ‘Da Kink In My Hair,’ which opens in Atlanta at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre on September 6th.  I am also in the middle of working on a film about a young girls’ singing group and the journey they take growing up in a bad neighborhood. I am the mother of one of the girls, but I’m not the greatest mom in the world. The movie is about watching these kids grow up and try to become this singing group while dealing with challenges.

I also have a film project called Hamlet & Hutch, which I produced through my company Nina Holiday Entertainment. It stars Burt Reynolds and the cutest dog ever. It’s a family-friendly movie and a beautiful story about a guy who gets diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and has to live with his granddaughter and her child. We produced that movie and filmed it in April. Now we are picking out the best distribution deal for television, DVD, and all that stuff. There are other projects too, but those are the ones that are on the forefront.”
